Admissions Policies

Admissions

Applications for admission are taken at any time of the year. The Adult High School offers two academic pathways for learners to complete their high school education. Learners who are 18 years of age and have been out of school a minimum period of one year will take the pathway of the Nova Scotia Public School High School Diploma. Learners who are 19 years of age and over who have been out of school a minimum period of one year are eligible for the Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma for Adults. Exceptions to the minimum one year period are considered where special circumstances exist. All applicants will be asked to complete an application form, provide proof of identification and participate in a personal interview and individual assessment. The School year is divided into two semesters. The first semester is from September to January and second semester is February to June. Full time students can earn up to 4 credits within a single semester. Within the parameters of existing schedules, a program will be developed to address the needs of each individual student.

Financial Information

Tuition is free to qualifying learners 18 years of age and over who do not have their high school diploma. Funding is provided by the Department of Education and the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning (NSSAL). All learners will pay a $50.00 student fee per semester (towards the cost of field trips, agendas, and books) Learners who are over 21 years of age and already have their high school diploma but who wish to return to upgrade must pay a tuition fee of $250 per course credit and $500 for every virtual high course credit.

Financial Assistance:

In some cases financial assistance is available for those wishing to complete their high school education. To find out about available assistance programs contact your local career resource center to speak with a counselor. If you are currently receiving benefits from any government agency contact that agency to discuss your application.

Refund Policy:

A refund will be issued only to those students who leave the program within the first two weeks of the semester and return all Adult High School resources including textbooks.
